Genevieve Carroll has long been interested in the notion of absurdity and paradoxes of the human spirit in the landscape.

Her work is seen as an ‘autobiographical collective’. Placing elements together that are both rational and irrational.

Genevieve has taken inspiration from Albert Camus’ essay ‘The Myth of Sisyphus’. Sisyphus is a man who is condemned by the gods to continually push a rock up a hill, only for it to roll back down again, pursuing a difficult wisdom. It is a repetitive act, one which becomes hope in a strange form.

It offers everything but confirms nothing, absurdity and happiness.

This is the second ‘Wattle Room’ installation Genevieve has presented at the Damien Minton Gallery.

This exhibition coincides with the group show, ‘Out of Hill End’, which features new work by artists who currently reside in the historic town situated in the Central West of NSW. Genevieve lives and works with her partner Bill Moseley in Hill End.
