Melbourne artist David O’Brien presents his second Sydney solo exhibition, Stepping on Cracks, at the Damien Minton Gallery.
David has just won the 2011 Linden Postcard Prize, Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne, with one of the judges being Archibald winner Sam Leach.
David O’Brien has been successfully exhibiting his artwork for the past decade in Melbourne. He has become known for his surreal Australian landscapes populated by suburban family vignettes including masked children and mysterious creatures.
This new series, Stepping on Cracks, sees a new confidence and playfulness in his application of paint, as he explores these themes with deeper menace and purpose. A sense of filmic suspense and magic pervades this new series of paintings.
